Oops I forgot

Got to work on time even though I caught a train on the way in, that's why I leave early, started my pick ups on time, got to my first pick up on time but the boss man told me that he had called in to say he needed a later pick up time today, no problem I said I just made some time elsewhere. Called my boss and asked him if he got a call from Klipsh about a later pick up time, he says oh yeah I forgot to tell you. They are so hard up about us not making mistakes but for them it's, oops, I forgot, double standards. Ok now I'm over it. Got invited to a pre-end of summer party on the 24th, Linda and I may go if she wants to, I went to Gabe's Super Bowl party it was cool to see all the old friends some from school and some from the old neighborhood, that night Chelsi was my designated driver she dropped me off and picked me up so I partied my ass off, that was a good time. So the rest of my day went well but it's still good to be home, now it's time to get to bed, gotta get up and pay some bills in the morning, I'm sure everyone goes through the same thing, money goes out as fast if not faster than it comes in but we are chipping away at our debt slowly but surely and that's the main objective, get out of debt and stay there, that's my plan I'll do my best to never finance another loan, if I don't have the cash, I can't afford it. So sleep well America   M

I'm not gonna say much tonight it's been a long day. One question: who holds the government accountable? I'm talking from the obama to the city mayors! I would like to get in there and just start getting rid of staff members, too many people taking our tax money and not using it wisely, makes me angry. Grrr so sleep well.  M

Sunday Funday

Got up early for our games today at least they were close by, Cal High is just around the corner, the girls did pretty good although they were having a very off day. We didn't win any of the games which is basically because of errors, and errors always hurt the spirit of the team, they become contiguous and before you know it everyone is suffering from it, whether they are involved with it or feeling it, it does affect them all in one way or another. We do try to get them to get past it but there must be something, as coaches that we are missing to try and keep their spirits up, their drive headed forward, and their hearts in the game. I'm sure there is a coach or therapist that could shed some light on what we could do as coaches to approach and support our girls to the level of desire to play that they may not realize they could reach, I feel we keep pushing them but they aren't seeing the goal, I believe we may be unclear in our direction we wish to proceed, I've recently discovered that putting goals down on paper really helps to clarify things, for example a budget sounds good but write it down and it takes on a reality all it's own, so instead of talking it out I think we need to print it out and use it as a class discussion once a week. Well that's all I got tonight I'm getting super tired so I'm going to bed.  So sleep well.  M

Shut the door

My brother Mark came over today and helped me put in a side door on my garage, it came out pretty,  good now I just have to get a set of locks and knobs. It will be nice to use the opener again, I didn't use it before because if it were to not open I wouldn't be able to get in and that would not be good even though we don't park our cars in there. So thanks a lot Mark for you help! 

Our family has been doing very good with our budget so we took our gift cards for Wood Ranch, that we had gotten for Christmas from my brother Carl, and went out to dinner as a family, the food was great the company was nice too,we had chicken, tri tip, brisket, baby back ribs, and I think Monti Alan had Mac & cheese, that poor kid was so tired he fell asleep on the way there, and after dinner we went to the book store, I know right, we got 3 books, I got something by John Stossel, Cortni and Chelsi both got a book they have been looking for I've no idea what they are, but I'm pretty sure they weren't computer magazines :). So now I'm home reading, well blogging for a minute, then I'm off to bed we have a game in the morning at 08:00 so we need to get up at 06:00 to be there by 06:45, it's just around the corner at Cal High.  So sleep well.  M

It's FRIDAY

Had a great day today except the two trains I caught on valley view, the construction zones on the 5 at the 91, and the 57 north, and the accident on 60 west on my way back from ontario other than that my day went very smooth. Linda says she's ok with the budget except I tend to keep changing the numbers, and she is right, I do but not on purpose it's just that I wasn't writing them down, so now we have a budget on paper nice and neat I'm thinking of making copies of it and hanging them around the house so if one of the kids want something instead of saying we don't have the money for that I can show them the big zero at the bottom of the page, if we don't have the cash for it we can't afford it. Im a big fan of Dave Ramsey as I may have mentioned before, I have to say he has changed my complete outlook on money. I had no financial plan of my own now I do, I was asked once by some loader at the ontario building what advise I would i give to a young couple, I know it's funny, me giving advise on marriage, but my response was and will always be get and stay out of DEBT it can ruin a relationship, it's the main reason for divorce as far as I know. Linda and I have had our difficulties but it seems, as soon as we got a financial plan together things just kind of became smooth, I know it was mostly me getting all bent over every little thing, mostly just dumb things but I think for the most part I've got my head out of my rear end and starting to see everything in a new light. In the morning my brother Mark is coming over to help me put a door in my garage after he has breakfast and gets a hair cut, he's bringing a jar of corn whiskey with him for us to try, I hope it's good, so that is the brunt of my day hope you all had a Good Friday as well, do now I'm off to bed for some much needed sleep. Ugh

Woke up this morning not feeling so good kind of like I had a hangover but it wasn't that, unless you can have flashback hangovers I don't know, but by the time I left for work I felt fine and that's what really matters right, work was good but I heard some disturbing news that whoever does the voting gave the NSA the ok to continue to tap cell phone conversations, I don't think that's right at all whatever happened to privacy,maybe you don't have absolute privacy anyways but who gave them the green light to do it intentionally I tell you this government really has gotten to be too much. I haven't had time to hit the bookstore yet but I have plans to read something by John Stossel and guys like him, I hope I don't find out more information than I want and turn into a protester at every turn, I just think its my American duty to learn more about our government also when someone wants to talk about our government, I won't have to say "I don't know enough about this subject to have an opinion". I'm branching out my knowledge to subjects I barely know anything about, so a lot more reading is in my future. On that note its time to hit the sack and call it a night. So sleep well. M

IVIS

Got up to breakfast and most if my family, Cortni was at school, her cheeks are still a bit swollen from getting her teeth pulled last week but she says they don't hurt. Work started fine my new pick up seems to work out well so far, but when I left for ontario the traffic was somewhat light, got there with no problems but when I called the office to get my dispatch back to Cerritos it got a bit crazy first they gave me door 197 it was a top off going to Denver which is a partial trailer that gets loaded the rest of the way at Cerritos, so I put a load restraint inside check the tires,lights, and chassis locks, pull away from the door seal it up for the trip and then I get a message in my IVIS, which is our in vehicle information system, I'm to take a different trailer, ok whatever, so I drop that one in the yard go find the 2nd one hook it up, it's all good, and would you believe they now want me to go get the first one instead, now I'm getting a bit pissed, keep in mind I'm getting this info from the office through the IVIS, so anger is starting to set in, this is not my building I don't know anyone here, so I'm thinking these people are just idiots, you know the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing, at least in my yard I can call up and try to find out what the heck is going on up there, I get back to the first one, I just took the 2nd one with me and parked it next to it, drop that off and just as I hook to the 1st one again,you guessed it another message, now what, they want me to call the office. I call them and they apologize for the mix up but they now give me the 2nd trailer AGAIN! Now I'm pissed so I tell them I'm taking the 2nd and leaving that's final, so I finally get out of the yard, it's a nice drive back no traffic I get to Cerritos drop the trailer go in to take my last break, my boss finds me and has the nerve to ask what took so long, keeping my composure I just shook my head and punched out and went home I have had enough for one day, so I'm leaving and my boss already had gotten a call from ontario explaining what happened, he was just busting my balls, so sometimes you just have to go with the flow, bleep happens. Now I'm home going to bed. So sleep well.  M

Got a new p/u

I was fretting over the weekend about my new p/u my boss dumped on me at the end of my pick up string, but he failed to realize although it may not be far away from my area it does involve quite a bit of traffic to get there with the alondra bridge closed for demolition everyone now takes Valley view to rosecrans and of course it's on valley view just before the train tracks at stage road which is also under construction, so starting on the 2nd even the service road that runs along the swap meet will be closed so I'm gonna have to take valley view to rosecrans to Carmenita over the freeway back to alondra, for those of you familiar with the old neighborhood and the swap meet you know the route I'm talking about, hey that rhymes. I did find out that one of my oldest friends is the air pick up driver it's Tom Vyara, his kid and my kid both made the softball team at Cypress College they both used to play ball together when they were much younger maybe 10yrs ago and now they are back together playing in college, man that's cool. So all in all it was a pretty good day as far as work goes, I may have a plan on how to get us finally out of debt, Linda had a good idea, we made some requests and now we are waiting for our answer, I'll let you know how that goes but if it goes well we'll be debt free everything except the house, the house is  considered an investment not a debt. So now it's time to bring in the dog and put out the cat yakity yak don't talk back, love that song. Kickin' back

Got up to a pot of coffee and cold pizza, the breakfast if champions, went to staples to get Monti Alan a sketch book and some pencils he's been asking for them all week, got back home and that's all I have done today I'm spending the evening watching True Grit, the one with Jeff Bridges not John Wayne, earlier I saw Escape From Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood, it's nice having a tv in my garage I get to watch what I want. Now I'm watching John Stossel, this just the second time I've seen his show he's doing a good job of helping me understand how much the bleeping government is screwing us into a welfare state, instead of letting us use our hard earned income to fend for ourselves they want us to be dependent on them. I agree with Grover that we should do away with federal tax and just pay state tax because federal taxes go to Washington and it never gets back to the states that pay it, so lets just pay a 15% state tax flat fee and pay tax on just what you spend of your own money, if you want to grow your own fruits and vegetables you don't have to pay tax on them if you dont buy them. He was comparing our government and their taxes to how the Roman Empire fell so now I'm gonna start reading up on how screwed up our government is. This blogging thing is helping me to find things that I didn't realize I want to research, maybe it will help me to become a better informed person, I've always looked at issues with the theory that I didn't have enough information to have an opinion so now I'm gonna start broadening my intellect on issues that affect us as Americans so stay tuned for subjects that may become interesting. On the road again

The girls had 3 games today but Cortni had 2 wisdom teeth pulled this week and I didn't want her to play while taking her pain meds, because I want her super sharp not loopy with her playing shortstop, so her and I stayed home, it was a first time we have missed a game because we decided its best to stay home. So the girls won 2/3 games today maybe it could've been 3/3 if she was there but the girls did good and we are very proud of them. After the last game some of the girls came over to see how she was doing Joe and Ray brought pizza, I felt bad for Cortni since she can't eat stuff like that yet, but it was nice of the girls to come by. Joe, Ray, and I had some cheladas and got to talk about the games and how and what the girls did. So I stayed home and worked on Chelsi's car, it was not shifting properly so I changed the fuel filter, and transmission fluid, put on new trans cooler hoses, took it out for a test drive and it seemed to work fine so $80.00 saved me from having to buy her another car, for now. We did have a nice evening hanging out watching Counting Cars that group of car guys can sure do some good work, I would like to have someone like that to do some work on my pick-up, I would like to have it painted, add some headers with dual exhaust maybe a second fuel tank I would like to get a bit better gas mileage without losing any power, that truck can do anything I ask of it. I've had my pick-up since valentines day 1991 bought it brand new it has to be the best built year, make, and model with a 454 motor and 1 ton rear end this truck laughs at hard work. Knock on wood but in 22yrs that truck has never left me in the side of the road, although I have replaced the water pump, the starter, front brake pads, I'm still using the original rear brakes, needless to say I love this truck. So it was an eventful day and Ray just left now I'll finish my last beer and get to bed early tonight and get a good night sleep. So sleep well.  M

Bosses ugh

Got home last night cleaned out the leftovers from the refrigerator left all the dirty dishes on the counter, apparently that's not what Linda wanted to see when she got up, I knew better, I was just being an ass and she let me know. We got past that and I went to work had a good day went to galaxy burgers for lunch had the dieters chicken plate which consist of 2 chicken breast, grilled, salad with tomatoes and cucumbers with a big scoop of cottage cheese with wheat toast dry on the side I smeared strawberry jelly on the toast and called it dessert with coffee it was great. Got out to ontario and my sneaky boss sent me a message telling me he added a new pick up to my day at 17:30 but he didn't ask me first if I had time to be able to get over to that stop and get them picked up so I replied telling him I have an open hour from 15:30 to 16:30 but apparently he sent me the message and took off before I could reply so now I've gotta wait till Monday to get this fixed. So now it's time to get home, get a chelada, and get to bed we have 3 games tomorrow in the afternoon, wish us a good game and hard play  so sleep well.  M

Happy Birthday son

Monti Alan is 12yrs old today, he's getting taller finally, he wants to grow his hair out he doesn't want a buzz cut anymore, that just means he is gonna have to actually talk to the barber and tell him how he wants it cut he's still gonna need to have it trimmed around the ears so it won't look sloppy while it grows. Other than that it was a good day at work I got invited to join the safety committee, I do have some ideas I would like to see changed around the building maybe this might get them heard we'll see what happens if they just blow them off I'll leave no big deal I've been ignored this long what's a few more years gonna matter. That's gonna be it for tonight I'm beat and in need of sleep, so sleep well.  M

Wednesday 7-17

Got up early and got the yard mowed only 2 days late, had a nice chat with a dear old friend about safe driving hope she uses some of my tips, you can never be too careful especially around trains. I was getting ready to leave for ontario tonight with a set, the front box was going to the ontario night sort and the back box was going to Denver with a sleeper team but the front top marker lights wouldn't work so to make sure our drivers got to CO. without any trouble I took it upon myself to get our mechanic Manny to replace them it took about 25min, so I left 30min late which put me into ontario late and then the snowball just started rolling, now I'm late leaving ontario and got in late back at Cerritos. I guess it's true nice guys finish last, but it's no big deal they were still able to get it up on the wall and get it loaded and on its way to Albuquerque. Took my last break punched out and went home and 3 of my cats were waiting on the porch for me to feed them, cats are cool, now it's my time to hit the sack I got bills to take care of in the morning so sleep well  M

Tuesday

Today was a good day to be out in the sunshine of southern CA. It's my 28yr work anniversary, it sure seems like a long time since starting back in high school working nights, some who I went to school with tried working at UPS loading and unloading trailers but they couldn't handle the workload, they may have been jocks or tough guys at school but they were no match for a hard days work. Although there are some guys I used to got to school with who still work there and I see them all the time, it's cool, I'll be able to retire in 4yrs, I'm sure I won't do it, I've still got a huge house payment and a family to support so maybe 10yrs we'll see. Quite a few senior drivers are gonna retire this year and that's just gonna move me up on the master seniority list, maybe I can get a run with a really good start time so that maybe I can be home in the evenings but that may still be a few years down the road. When I started driving feeder I was #519 but now after 8yrs I'm #401 I moved up almost 120 spots maybe 20-40 more spots by the end of the year (fingers crossed). So with my grandpa and his 36yrs and now me and my 28yrs UPS has been part of my family's heritage for over 60yrs, I guess we just look good in brown. Well it's time to call it a night so sleep well. M

Monday Monday

Breakfast was a ham and cheese with a fried egg sandwich my favorite with a cup of coffee. Monti Alan thinks summer vacation is for staying up late and sleeping all day I hate to break the bad news to him, whether you stay up late or not you still have to get up early enough to spend time with me and he's not a morning person, like me, you can't be a night owl without being an early bird. Work started out as usual still not getting my tractor washed with the car wash broken down, pick ups went great but when I got to kenwood to exchange trailers I was pretripping my loaded trailer and found out I had a flat tire luckily it was an inside tire and the trailer was only half full so just took it real slow on the way back to the yard, had no further problems for the day. Lunch was my grandma's pepper steak that my wife made for me, it was great, it's steak, bell peppers, and onions over rice mmm good. Took my trip out to ontario got back at 01:45 took my last break punched out at 02:15, now it's bedtime so sleep well everyone.  M

Not much happened today had some beers today with joe and ray worked on chelsi's car a little now I'm watching Elementary. Have a good night. M

Practice anyone?

We had softball practice this morning only 1/2 the girls showed up, that's not a good practice but the girls that did show got a bit more individual attention. I was able to spend some valuable time with our new pitcher she is a real hard working kid I think she is going to have a good season. We had a BBQ at my folks house, burgers and dogs with all the fixing,,lemon jello cake always a hit, it's my dads favorite. There was about 20 people there to help celebrate dads 70th which is tomorrow we got home tonight at 19:00 now I'm watching the Death Wish marathon I recorded earlier I'm also a big fan of Charles Bronson I think The Mechanic also starring Jan Michael Vincent is one of my favorites but that is all that is happening tonight so I'm signing off    Have a good weekend. A day off

Spent the day doing very little, ran some errands with Chelsi, repaired a bike i have had for about a year, I got it from Joe now Ray is going to add it to his healthy living plan maybe soon the 3 of us can take a ride to the beach who knows. Now I'm hanging out with my cat Elvis in the garage watching Breaking Bad marathon counting the days till the new season starts on the 11th of next month. We have softball practice tomorrow morning at 09:00 then we go to my folks house in Norwalk for a BBQ my dads birthday is Sunday. We are having hamburgers and hotdogs, the kids can swim or shoot pool it should be a good day. This is all for tonight got to get up early.   M

I'm tired

Had a great day at work today, everything went as it should've until I got out to ontario. I got to the yard 2min late but still in plenty of time to get my trailer unloaded, I don't speed if I'm running late that's just asking for something to happen, if it does its not going to be my fault because I was speeding and driving in a unsafe manner I already got a ticket about a year ago on my way home from Chicago by way of Phoenix doing 65 when I should've been doing 55, my bad, so no more speeding for me if I'm late I'm late I'm not risking the safety of others sharing the road with me, that ticket was $290.00, lesson learned. So I was dispatched with a trailer going back to Cerritos for the morning sort, got about 20 miles out and started hearing some flapping from the passenger side of my rig, I pulled over to the side of the road and I could smell the burnt rubber of a tire, I got out and low and behold a tire on my trailer had lost its tread and got tangled up with the mud flap, so now the hanger for the mud flap it rubbing on the tire so I called the shop and 2 mechanics came out and bent the hanger away from the tire and cut the mud flap off luckily I had my trusty leather man tool with me then they followed me back to Cerritos just in case the tire decided to get worse, it didn't, I got back safe and sound, took my last break punched out at 03:15. Now I'm home, I did stop for gas on the way home. I have tomorrow off so I'm gonna try to sleep in, if I can, I have some errands to run with chelsi maybe I'll take her out to lunch that would be fun. So anyways good night sleep tight. M

Hump day

Got up to a bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast and coffee, Linda and I talked a bit about how we are gonna pay $800.00 for chelsi's classes and get a more dependable car for her to drive to and from school and work, as soon as she gets a job. We've agreed we'll sell some of our stock, it's kind of like free money anyways so we decided to use some of it for our emergency fund and spend the rest wisely. Got to work about 15min early like always started getting my gear together, went out to pre-trip my tractor and realized I forgot to punch in so I was at work on time and late on the same day I thought that was kind of funny, do I just stayed an extra 15min to make up for it. After that the whole day went smooth as glass, so in a nut shell I had a good day at work I feel bad for people who don't enjoy their job as I do. Well that is gonna be it for the night it's bedtime for me, so all of you out there have a great day.  M

What a day

Hello, got out of bed forgot about breakfast got to work on time, I can't imagine being late for work, only been late 2 times in 28yrs and those were less than 5min, I'm a stickler for being early, anyways got to work punched in got my p/u log but couldn't find my keys, my tractor was here but no keys. I put my lunchbox, thermos, and pull bar on the cat walk, for those who don't know what that is its the platform behind the cab, I figured I would find them or someone had used the tractor, so I go back outside and all my stuff is sitting on the ground behind my tractor, my thought was that if someone had the keys they would see my gear and go back into the office to see if they knew whose stuff it was, well I found the 1 driver who didn't think like that but I caught him before he took off and asked him to get a different tractor, problem solved. Everything after that was good. Got back from ontario was planning on going home as always but the bosses had other plans for me they dispatched me with a trailer going to the Santa Fe rail yard, took it to the rail now I can go home it's 03:45.  M

Headache

Woke up this morning with a terrible headache. had a ham, cheese and fried egg sandwich with a cup of the ever present coffee, didn't help, but breakfast was good all the same. I like summertime vacation, I get to hang out with the kids before work, I sure miss them during the school year, but seeing them in the morning does make it hard to leave for work, I am working to provide for them so I know I have to go. So I get to work, my headache just got worse and of course I forgot any kind of aspirin, the work day started same as always, which is the way I like it, I am a big fan of routine it gives me the chance to change something small and make a big difference. Long story short, a good day at work, I punched out at 02:00 home by 02:30 gonna put this day in the books and call it a night, took a couple Tylenol Tension aspirin,head feeling better already hoping to feel great when I get up at 10:00, I know it's not much sleep but I seem to function pretty good on very little sleep (they) say most people will spend 1/3 of their lives in bed, with me it's more like 1/4 It seems that if I sleep too long I get all stiff with a sore back. Now it's off to bed.  M

Sunday=Relax

Sundays, if we don't have games, are my days to do very little, I did build a bike work station from some stuff lying around, I don't throw anything out, I'm sure I can do something with it. I cut some wood so that it will fit in the trash can, watched Jaws and now The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is on, I'm a huge Clint Eastwood fan. My wife made biscuits and gravy for breakfast with a pot of coffee, don't get much better. That's about all that's going on today, so have a safe week at work.  M

Softball Saturday

I had the privilege to be on the field with The 2013 Dominators today and watch them play their hearts out, we won 2/3 games at a friendly tournament in Rosemead CA. We played some pretty good teams, there were a lot of hits, good hits too, we had 2 home runs, some stolen bases, and some really good defense. Our last game was against a high school team they obviously have been playing together for quite some time, they were very good but we gave them a good game, we really didn't lose to them we just ran out of time, we were coming back but too little too late I guess. We have been putting this team together for a few months, finding a girl here and a girl there, I think we have got about 95% of the team together, we are still looking for a pitcher or two we have some hopefuls we're just waiting for replies. As of now we are playing against travel teams who are preparing for big tournaments and we are playing very well for just recently getting this team together, the girls get along great and that is so critical for a good team, you know how teenage girls can create drama, but not our girls, they have what seems to be a natural love for each other as ball players, teammates, and as friends, it's wonderful to watch such a group of girls who come from so many different families, different schools, and different neighborhoods, to play together as if they were there own family. I doubt many people had a better day than I did, except the families and coaches of these young ladies we call Dominators, and on that note I'll be signing of for the day the Coaches of the Roundtable are expected over for an after game meeting to discuss what will be covered during this week of practice, so have a good weekend and be safe out there.

F#%day

Today started out alright for me, but when I got to work I found that 6 drivers were scheduled off but 14 had called in sick, those bosses were pissed, I'm glad I showed up, I wouldn't want to be on that s#%t list. A few shops were closed so pick-ups were light, lunch at Galaxy burger was grilled chicken breast salad, it was pretty good washed it down with iced tea, too hot for soda, after lunch my day took a turn not in my favor, I got the news that from now on my Friday nights I'm not going out to ontario which is basically the best part of the day, lunch then a nice long drive, but now I've been reassigned to go to LA twice, ugh. On the other hand 4/5 days I love my job not many people get to say that so no more complaining about it,  just had to get it off my chest. It's about 01:30 time for my last break then I'm on my way home, got to get up at 07:00 we have 3 softball games in the morning. Enjoy the heat, stay hydrated, and be careful out there.

The 4th of July

This is my first time trying to blog I'm not sure i will have anything worth reading but I may have something worth saying, to me anyways, today being the 4th I had the day off, with pay of course, I spent the day cleaning the yard and having cheladas with joe. There are no fireworks allowed here in Whittier but they still go off all around the neighborhood it's cool as long as nothing catches fire. I'm not gonna do much here except to wish all a happy and safe 4th of July.  M
